The Bioethics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 2011. Its main role is to identify and analyze ethical, legal and social problems resulting from the development of science, especially biomedical sciences, and to discuss challenges related to the drafting and implementation of adequate healthcare policy and public policy measures.
The Bioethics Committee is an interdisciplinary body. It is composed of eminent representatives of the humanities, medical sciences, biological sciences, and legal sciences.
Currently, the Bioethics Committee is in its fourth term of office. The Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences appointed the Committee for the term 2023-2026, as well as its chairperson and members by resolutions No. 1/2023 of January 24, 2023 and No. 8/2023 & 9/2023 of February 21, 2023. Inaugural meeting of the Bioethics Committee in the new composition took place on March 28, 2023 at the headquarters of the Polish Academy of Sciences at the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. The current term of office of the Committee ends on 31 December 2026.
